MANILOW TO FILE LAWSUIT
|
HOLLYWOOD - 29th Oct 04: Unconfirmed
reports suggest that musical legend and housewife's favourite,
Barry Manilow, is to raise a lawsuit over the name of popular
poker game, "Manila".
Though the origins of the game - which dates
back hundreds of years - are largely unknown, Manilow insists
the name itself is a direct derivative of his own, and that casinos
are cashing in on a celebrity endorsement which the ageing star
has never actually made.

Lawsuit: Manilow |
Though it is currently unclear as to who or what Manilow
may raise the lawsuit against, one insider claims the New York born
music veteran is seeking damages worth around eighteen million dollars,
as well as a percentage of all future monies gambled during Manila games
in the continental US.
The news comes just weeks after the shock announcement
that former Friends actress, Jennifer Anniston, is to raise a cease
and desist order against the Mediterranean herb derivative, Aniseed,
for similar copyright reasons.
UK "MEGACASINO" PLANS ANNOUNCED
SCOTLAND - 20th Oct 04: Following a change in UK gambling
laws, plans have been announced for Great Britain’s first Vegas
style “Super Casino” complex.
Located in Glasgow, Scotland, the “Ibrox Sands” resort
project will cost an estimated one hundred and fifty million pounds,
and is being headed by billionaire Sheldon G Adelson who currently runs
Glasgow Rangers Football Club as well as the Venetian Resort hotel-casino
in Las Vegas.
The move follows legislation changes which saw many limitations lifted
from existing casinos, including upper prize limits of two thousand
GBP and the requirement that members must join 24 hours before entering
the casino for the first time.
Under new laws membership of a casino is no longer required for entry,
with casinos larger than 5000 square metres able to offer unlimited
prize-money on games.
